Some of the most common professional motorsport connectors are the Deutsch Autosport and Souriau 8STA ranges. These are fantastic connector products, combining high pin density and legendary robustness. The pin and sockets in these ranges are mostly indent crimped and then inserted or extracted using the plastic tool.

Tech Tip.

Tech Tip. For inserting or extraction, it can be difficult to capture the wire in the plastic tool. Our tip is take your service looping tool and place it under the wire you want to capture. Now press and slide the plastic tool over the wire and the looping tool helps push the wire into the plastic tools slot.

The rubber seal in the connector makes such a good seal with the wire and it can be hard to insert the contact smoothly, back in the day people used a light oil but more common these days is using IPA, Isopropyl alcohol, either from an dispenser or spray some into a shallow dish. Once dipped in IPA it allows the contact to slip in easily and the IPA evaporates without leaving a residue.

If you have a tricky pin to extract, try a little IPA on the plastic tool, slide down the wire and gently rotate/rock the tool whilst pushing it down. This can help bump it over the back of the socket/pin and most pins can be easily extracted.
