It’s been another great weekend at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025, and even better to hear some of our Tech Engineering supported projects fire up the hill.
A couple of projects we have been supporting include the street-legal Pagani Huayra R and Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, both modified for road use by hyper-car specialist Lanzante.
The McLaren Solus GT, with its sliding jet fighter-style canopy, also made a run, and it sounded great on the hill. It is, however deafening when it is fired up inside the McLaren workshop for the gearbox checks during commissioning!

The Lamborghini Sesto and Pagani Huayra R were both track-only Hyper-cars, however they have been modified by the team at Lanzante and these track missiles are now road legal cars (if you dare!)
The team at Lanzante are specialists in this type of work and to meet the required regulations the distinct lack of a parking brake had to be addressed. A mechanical option was not possible due to packaging and routing constraints, so it needed an EPB and was fitted with secondary electric callipers on both rear brake discs.
With no suitable OEM controller, Tech Engineering re-wrote the code to our TECI-PWR Controller, which is a robust CAN enabled controller with dual high current H bridge drivers. As ever in the automotive world, the idea is simple: drive the EPB motors to clamp and un-clamp the rear disc but the devil is in the detail and required some interesting code.
In simple terms, during the apply phase, the system takes up the slack and then current monitoring limits the clamping force. During the release phase, the motors are initially cracked off, then current monitored, waiting for the motor loading to drop-off. A specified amount of backing-off avoids pad rub, while simultaneously ensuring the electric calliper does not exceed its mechanical travel limits. With CAN communications we can exchange status and requests from the other systems and provide an OE feel to this specialist solution. A bare microcontroller is pretty dumb so the code must take into account every imaginable situation, frozen or stuck calipers, user aborts, caliper and pad servicing, safety lock-outs, EPB state logging etc. whilst all built into a reliable control loop.
It has been an interesting exercise and whilst this little controller from Tech Engineering will not get you to your Monaco 5 star hotel any faster, we will hold you rock solid as you climb out and hand the keys over to the concierge …and you trust them to park it?
If you need a custom solution to solve a tricky problem, get in touch. We can leverage existing motorsport hardware or customise our own products into unique solutions for your project.
If you want to know more about the road legal conversion of the Pagani Huayra R by Lanzante, there is a great write up by the guys at Carbuzz.
