in person training

Workshops

Live and interactive training

On-line training has its place, but for practical skills you cannot beat doing live in-person training. You will learn with our trained technicians, who are solely dedicated to help you to master the skills.

Practical and real world scenarios

The techniques taught in our workshops are taken from professional motorsport environments. We design the courses to ensure you can apply the skills, directly to your projects.

Theory and practical

WireTrain believe that understanding why you do something, is just as important as how to do it. The courses are practical in style, but we also blend in supporting theory, leaving you with a rounded understanding of the topic.

All equipment is provided

We provide the build materials and tools to complete all of the workshop tasks. We only use materials that are of the correct grade. For example; the Pro Wiring uses DR25, and Autosport Connectors, and appropriate tooling.

Affordable to replicate

Where possible we recommend effective, but affordable tooling for use in your own workshops. Aviation certified tooling can be very expensive, WireTrain has worked hard to source high quality alternatives, thus reducing the cost of equipping your own bench or race truck.

Approachable learning method

Our workshops are a full day  with a blend of practical and theory learning, we include breaks across the day, giving a comfortable, but productive rate of learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

We think we’ve covered most questions here but if not, please don’t hesitate to contact us using the button below.

+ How long does the training last?

Workshops typically start at 9.00 am and run to 5:00pm. Attendees are stongly advised to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early. We always have lots to cover, and aim to dive straight in at 9:00 am.

The days is split into 1 hour blocks, these are each followed by a 10 minute break. Lunch is from 12:30 to 13:30. This format delivers 6 hours of focused training each day, but with enough breaks to allow you to enjoy the day.

+ What are the dates of the workshops?

We understand the motorsport calender is busy, so please get in touch and we can work with you to find appropriate dates. Just hit the message button below.

+ Who runs the workshops?

We use engineers and wiring technicians with decades of experience in the motorsport field. The WireTrain team members are generally working daily in professional motorsport, either building or supporting projects around the globe.

+ Is the workshop value for money?

We strive to ensure great value across all of our workshops, but we do understand cost concerns. In the Pro Wiring workshop each attendee will consume many hundereds of pounds worth of materials, boots, wire and autosport connectors during the workshop, these are the same materials as those found in F1, LeMans, Indycar wiring harnesses.

At every workshop attendees are provided a full set of tools for the duration of the day. Finally our staff are professionals who consult or work in motorsport enviroments. Putting this all together creates a fantastic value package. No one ever said motorsport on a budget was easy 😉

+ What are the levels of the workshops?

We rank each of our workshops from Level 1 to Level 4. This allows you to gauge what intensity and detail to expect from each workshop.

Level 1: An introductory workshop which will be suitable for those with no prior experience, and with limited practical background.

Level 2: These workshops assume you’re familiar with general wiring concepts, motorsport terms, and have a good practical skills set.

Level 3: These workshops are generally for those that work in professional motorsport, and need winning results. Your generally happy with a challenging learning curve.

Level 4: Where many of our other workshops give a broad understanding of the topic, these workshops typically deep dive and aim to push you to a global motorsport level.

+ Can you fit everything you listed into a single one day workshop?

We are dedicated to good value, and our workshops are fairly busy days. However we still want to ensure everyone gets enough time to progress, at their own pace. If the whole group makes excellent progress across a day, we usually have some extra demonstrations, but this is obviously dependant on time remaining. We cannot guarantee to run them in full every time.

+ What happens if I finish a task early?

Fantastic, your doing great! But we can be sneaky, and we sometimes include optional and fun, additional, taxing tasks for anyone completing a task early! We like to make sure you’ll never get bored, ha!

+ Where are the workshops located?

Many of our workshops are held in the main meeting room of Heyford Park Innovation Center. The Heyford park area has seen lots of development recently, and some SatNavs struggle a little.  Turning off Camp Road, at the roundabout take the 4th exit and along East Castle street, ignore the first turning left, continue along the road and you will find a carpark on the left. Heyford Park Innovation Center entrance is in the south east corner.

+ Do you cater for specific dietary needs?

A simple buffet lunch is provided. We want you to enjoy the whole day, if you have special medical dietary needs we advise arranging your own lunchtime snacks. Our lunch buffet provider does a great job, but we do struggle to provide a dietary specific lunch for individuals. There are local shops and supermarkets that can offer something to suit everyone.

+ Do you offer discounts for students?

If you have only left full time education in the last 3 years, please contact us. We may be able to offer a discounted space, if space permits.

+ How can I book onto a workshop?

Simply send us a message in the contact us box below and we will be in touch within 24 hours.

+ Like the idea of joining our training team?

The WireTrain team are passionate about accumulating great wiring knowledge and skills. We train the next generation of wiremen. Get in touch for a chat.

+ Do you provide certificates of completion?

Upon completing the workshop all attendees will receive a WireTrain Training Certificate of Achievement. Certificates are usually sent within 14 days.

+ Can you provide a certificate of attainment for my employer?

If required by employers we can provide a post event grading. Our workshop engineer will asses the level of the attendee across the day, this allow us to give a grading of ability within the workshops topic, in addition we asses for the qualitative improvement across the day. Certificates of attainment are usually sent within 14 days.

Don’t just take our word for it!

There’s something for everyone

There is something for everyone at WireTrain, John and the team have a great way of delivering their knowledge and all the equipment to demonstrate and allow hands on practical training to back it up. I believe every workshop there’s someone that can benefit from this training.

Kieran P

Electrical Department Manager

A must do course for all abilities!

I went myself to the Maximising Soldering Skills course, but I now realise I should be sending my juniors too!

Brian S

Race Engineer

WireTrain are indispensable.

Wiretrain are indispensable. There’s an excellent mix of theory and practical skills delivered by guys who know wiring inside out. Highly recommended.

Sean D

Graduate Engineer

Invaluable tools that I can really use.

The Pro Wiring tech notes are invaluable tools that I can really use. It can be really hard to find concise real world information but the WireTrain workshop did just that.

Dave G

Amature Racer

It was a thoroughly informative day.

It was a thoroughly informative day, the workshop buit on my existing skills but I really found the background information on ‘why’ we should use certain techniques to be just as helpful as the ‘how.
